See it’s easy!
Cazorla and Gervinho had chances to put Arsenal up early on but both missed their opportunities. Arsenal had an added edge today and you could see results over recent weeks had galvanized the team. Wilshere was pulling the strings early on an Arsenal were clearly pushing for an early goal.
Giroud and Cazorla again fluffed their lines and Gervinho was in erratic form. Then Cazorla was tripped inside the left of the box cutting back out, look a nail on penalty to me, but West Brom players were fruious. Olsson even thumped Wilshere in the back and of course the Arsenal players reacted.
Arteta steadied the nervous, took a slow run up, waited for the keeper to dive to his right and slotted it firmly down the middle.
There were more chances in the first half but they were falling to Gervinho who would have had trouble to trap a bag of cement today. To be fair to him, he works hard, and he is not one to hide, but the end product is definitely hit or miss.
In the opening moments of the second half, Chambo hit the bar when put in by Wilshere, and the next chance again would fall to Gervinho, it was a fluffed header wide. Gervinho was then given and one on one and literally gave it back to the keeper. Arsenal though were persistent in their pressure.
On 64 minutes the Gunners go their reward, Chamberlain was bundled over and Arteta repeated the penalty ritual. 2-nil!
Chamberlain had grown into the game and deserved the assist for the goal. He would keep pressing and is always at his most dangerous with the ball at his feet. Mertesacker was also faultless for the game, even his booking came from a brilliant clean tackles which the ref obviously was trying to give one back to WBA, he has been our rock.
Arsenal comfortably sore out the game and it was a great confidence builder against a team above us in the league.
