Arsenal didn’t need to win, but it would have been nice, considering are recent form, going into a game with that attitude, it was lambs to the slaughter. But we started well, Gervinho flashed one wide early on, and LeCoq also getting a chance.
Rambo fluffed his lines and Chamakh was in and out of the game. The team of course was rusty with the amount of appearances each of these lads have made. You would expect with the captain and the keeper in there the defence would at least be organised. At times it was sloppy and desperate.
Overall though Arsenal were on top in the first half and it was rounded off by a silky goal on 37. A great move and Gervinho was on the right of the box, he cut back and rolled it perfectly into the path of Rosicky to thump it home.
Rosicky was taken off at half time, interesting to take the best player off, but Tom has been out for an eternity so perhaps it was wise. Rosicky was the player who showed he can make an impact into the first team. Without him this team struggled. Olympiacos were the better team throughout the half but we did have chances Arshavin had a couple of goes but the shots lacked power.
First Olympiacos scored in the second phase of a corner that never was and the assists came from Ramsey, the winner was a belter from 25 yards, Chesney may have not seen it but he dived late and it found the bottom corner of the net.
So second place, and you know what you’re all thinking, Barcelona……… but it’s the luck of the draw!
