Result – so predictable. 2 Drogba goals, a simple defeat.
Performance – not so predictable, after the last few performances at least.
Arsenal started brightly, the lads looked up for it, the passing was quick and movement seemed good. Before long though, familiarity set in as Drogba scored from the chav’s first attack. Gutting, but so, so predictable. Why didn’t I put about £50 on Drogba first scorer?!
We still looked good after that, Arshavin had a great chance with a volley from a Cesc pass, but he hit Cech’s legs. Then the chavs mounted a swift counter attack, they were ruthless (much like United last week) and Drogba took his second goal with his second shot. That is efficiency is what we’re missing, and have missed for along while, probably since the days of Henry. Rooney and Drogba didn’t need two chances, if you give them a sniff they will take advantage and score. You could give some of our players a couple of minutes in the box and they still wouldn’t shoot!
2-0 down after 23 mins then, and it looked grim. Would our heads go down, could this be a thrashing? I’m pleased to say no, we never got overrun, and although we hardly looked like we were about to bang 3 in, the chavs ‘support’ got very frustrated as they gave the ball away lots and we totally dominated possession. We did carve out a few chances, a Cesc freekick and Nasri was put clean through, only to hesitate and let Cashley make a saving tackle. If we had put one or two of the chances away, as the chavs had, this could have been a different story. Instead, the game stayed true to form, as Arsenal had some pretty possession without scoring, and Chelsea bullied their way to two Dogsbreath goals.
Crap result, but who honestly didn’t see it coming? Massive game against the Scousers now, it would be nice to win and get some momentum back ready for the run in. Laters.
Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna (74 Eboue), Gallas, Vermaelen, Clichy, Cesc, Song, Diaby (74 Rosicky), Arsahvin, Nasri, Theo (64 Bendtner). Subs not used: Fabianski, Sol, Denilson, Ramsey.

As dissapointed as i was with the result,i was pleased with the all round performance of the team and the spirit.
I hate to say it but i don’t think Theo will ever be the player we want him to be,his heart and soul is there but i just don’t know…..
Glad to see also the boo boys have yet to log on with their doom and gloom views!!!
Paul on Sun, 7th Feb 2010 9:32 pm
OK we didn’t win – but we played well – completely different spirit to united game Diaby was the difference
GoonerGaz on Sun, 7th Feb 2010 9:35 pm
Going there with no forwards left us in a pickle, but we OUTCLASSED Chelsea in their back yard…..if you dont beleive me look at the stats.
Block19er on Sun, 7th Feb 2010 9:42 pm
Diabys lack of concentration and ability to mark at corner is a real difference. No point being tall if you can’t arsed to get up a head the thing!!

THE PROBLEM IS OUR FORMATION ,451 AND 433 ARE BAD I DONT KNOW HOW U CANT SEE THIS AFER 2 SEASONS 1 OF BOTH =this is george the g man we changed our formation when we were strong always at 442 just had wrong mentality and aproach and not as strong squad (after invincibles).now we have been playing stupid 451 s which ruins all end of last season cup chances any one can see if they look at it and consider it ,against weak clubs maybe but any half decent ones no ,since these messed up formations every week week out we look vulnerable and we never did with 442 we were only caught by one goal if ever did we lose and they would just sitback and try to defend and as i said due mentality inexperience and aproach and squad we sometimes could not break them down but now we know what to do and with 442 we will domininate if we see 442 you will see ,and so after this ludicrus 451 we went too another experiment 433 much better and effective anything better than that 451 but i still saw the vulnerability in it even in the everton game and all of them i s have been screaming this since i saw us with that joke 451 and have still to this day just not as much with the 433 as i thought maybe since we looked good and won even though looking vulnerable but now my fears are more clear if not certain ,dont get me wrong i think we could pull it off with any formation if anyone can its arsenal .we never looked vulnerable or like conceding with 442 and now we do since these crazy formations in my opinion we were surgicaly dismatled by man city because of this as with these two formations is no balance 433 weakness in defence leads to weakness in attack and 451 vice versa to me this is clear to see as i am a great very talanted footballer and have experince in formations so with this 433 we our very defensively weak especialy on the break with the 442 we will have harmony invinceable defence midfield and attack surely some one must agree does anyone agree, only with strong tall and creative engine players in midfield wud we pull it off barca pull it off but this is in the spanish league which is nothing compared to the premiership eccept barca ,real and they have messi who in there games comes back to win the ball and is always back until they have the ball and then he gets forward

walcott SUCKS ASS.. speed is nothing without skill, or even BALL CONTROL.. this guy is maaaaad over rated, can’t do shit on the pitch, never could.
1 or 2 amazing runs, a hattrick for england, 1 nice pass…in 100+ appearances. what a waste..
I actually do hope he makes the world cup squad so he shines (but in reality fucks England over), and then hopefully we get a massive bid for him and sell his ass..
Roy-Vasey on Sun, 7th Feb 2010 10:51 pm
Only thing I was upset by was our mini front line. Seemed a waste of time earning corners when all the Chavs giants did was clear. But, when Bendtner came on I saw why he wasn’t started.
That boys confident and tall, and that’s about it!
I hope we get back to winning ways against Luckypool wednesday, Arsene give Fabianski a start, why else give him a new contract recently…
Anon on Sun, 7th Feb 2010 10:53 pm
It was not Diaby’s fault.
It wasn’t even his man!
Why do some fans have it in for this kid?!
He played very well despite being short of match fitness.
Aside from the poor defending, we played valiantly.

We can’t expect to get points without any goals. That being said, did anybody watch Almunia’s reactions on the two goals? Helpless and lost are the two words that come to mind. I know it was dogbreath, but 2 shots 2 goals is pathetic. Its true that they had true Strikers on the pitch and we didn’t, but the same can be said about keepers as well. Cech made saves, Almunia didn’t. How is this guy still starting anywhere in this league, much less Arsenal?
Pete the First on Mon, 8th Feb 2010 12:04 am
By and large our critics are right. Lack of punch up front, and a shaky defence, lacking tactical nouse.
Diaby had a good game. Song looked good again.
Clichy had a shocker. Back post, back post….hold on to it at corners!
Almunia, time for a rest.
Chelsea got the two goals and just sat back like an Italian side and soaked up pressure. Too easy.

all of u are tolking for a good performance even we lost by two goals. Well, let me ask u, do u think we are portsmuth or wigan? We are Arsenal we can play football at least. U have to know something cheski did the job in less than 30 min.why should they get tired when the game its over. Guys, they know how to play against us, they and man united too. Let them keep the boll we beat them with counter atack, this is what they have in their minde. Man u did it in cl, then cheski did it, man u again and here are cheski today did apsolutely the same thing. Why we let them doing it again and again? Because unfortunatly we dont have a strategly we have a manager, because we have a manager that has no idea about the strategy in football, has no idea i say it again. Every manager has a strategy when they play a big game against their rivals, but our Wenger thinks his young team can go to cheski and beat them just like they did against bolton or wolvs, so there is no need to think more and deeply on it. The real problem here, is Wenger. I love him i supported him for what he has donne for Arsenal, but he has lost it. Enough is enough. There is only one person in the Earth who thinks we dont need a striker, and that our goalkeeper is a good one, and this person is Wenger, the only one who should have seen it clearly before us and everybody els. He didnt see the need for new players, and u know why, cose he loves playing this game with us, he likes to be arrogant with us, thats it. If u have other idea why he didnt buy a striker when he knew that RvP will not help us this seasen, when he knew that Bendner is not good enough, then please tell me. If u have other idea why he insisted and still does the same, playing with Almunia and Denilson when its clear they dont deserve to play for Arsenal then please tell me, i really want to know what is going wrong here. If we are young mr.Wenger then why u did something for it, if we are not good enough then why u didnt buy. But pls dont tell me we were better than cheski or we were unlucky with so many injury players, because u insult people’s inteligence if u do it. You mr.Wenger, are here to make the club stronger than anyother team in the country, u are her to make us the first in the league table or at least to fight till the end,(its february and with many luck we are 9 points behind the leaders, and i dont think u call it as a fight till the end, its over, OVER) this is ur job and u are not doing it well!

Looks like a two horse race for the title but there`ll be a battle royal for third and fourth spot.
I`ve always thought of the `clockenders` as Arsenal`s answer to Liverpool`s `kop` and hopefully they will have the same effect on Wednesday. Myself I always stood at the other end at Highbury, no offence. Just after the war they would jam 60 or 70 thousand into Highbury it was frightening for a litle lad like me.On leaving quite often my feet left the ground in the crush. Best say no more, I may have lived on Seven Sisters but my missus comes from Scottie Road in Liverpool..
Dylan Rance on Mon, 8th Feb 2010 8:04 am
We played well until we got to the final third!
Once again the fact we needed a forward in January was highligted.
And all of you who think Wenger is bang on and cant be touched – answer me why he started Walcott instead of Bendtner against one of the biggest teams in the league!
If we lose on Wednesday night we are in a real battle for a top 4 finish!

comon lads at least with the games coming up we have a chance of winning and going on a bit of a run again.with chelsea and the manks out of the way we now have a genuine chance of putting some points on the board.too good for the rest not good enough for the best.summing up or season so far in one sentence.
jake on Mon, 8th Feb 2010 10:29 am
my biggest worry in the two recent matches is our failure to get through the first half and make a match of it. We know these teams want to play counter attacking football, and we switch off and give them a lead to sit on. It is very frustrating.
Agreed on the striker, the loss of rvp is a lot more telling against a stingy defence.
We do still have an excellent squad
Dougall on Mon, 8th Feb 2010 6:37 pm
Very disappointing. Despite all the claims about possesion and stats etc……it really doesn’t matter because the score is the only thing that counts. The important thing is to dust ourselves down and prepare for the Liverpool game.
It does seem as if our game plan has been busted and our weaknesses have been ruthlessly expoited in these past few weeks. This is the worrying thing – we don’t appear to have a Plan B when things aren’t going so well. Hopefully, having Nicky B back in the squad will give us an extra option but I don’t think he’s the answer in the long term.
The good news is that after this Wednesday our run-in is much more favourable than our rivals so we still have a chance to gain some ground. Probably not enough to win the title but we can certainly regain some pride and credibility.
There’s still alot to be positive about – we’re a good side, probably only 2 or 3 players away from being a great side and we’re still very near the top of the best and hardest football league in the world.
We’re still by far the greatest team the world has ever seen
rabbi on Mon, 8th Feb 2010 6:51 pm
good call dougall.your thinking like me.easy run of games coming up and a chance to get confidence back into the lads.were definatly a few players through the spine of the team before were the finished article.
