Champions League Draw / this weekend

What a shite draw, OK, so we should qualify as we have not been drawn against the best teams from each of the other pots, however, we have a long way to travel to make the next round; Kiev & Istanbul, nice!! We did not get the bye that the Chavs got either; Lucky Cnuts. I personally will not be going to any of the away games, I don’t fancy Kiev or Istanbul & I’m not going to waste money booking up Porto when it’s the last game of the group stages & hopefully by then we would have qualified. I think I will save my Euros for the next round. I knew after getting an easy qualification game that we would get a harder draw in the group stages. Don’t get me wrong, I do think we will qualify, however, the two long trips will not make the following premiership games easy; Kiev away on the Weds, followed by Bolton away on the Sat. Then when we get back from Istanbul, we have West Ham away, fair enough Istanbul is on the Tues & we don’t play the Spammers till the Sun, so not as hard as Bolton away, but its still a long way to travel mid-week.

Anyway, the main thing is that we are in the group stages – & we got there in a slightly easier fashion than Liverpool did. You’ve got to be in it to win it, so we have more chance of winning the Champions League than Spuds do!!

It was a pity to see Big Phil go, I rate him, people gave him stick for his errors, & yes he did make some, but overall, name a better 3^rd or 4^th choice centre back in the premiership? I also felt that both Gallas & Toure had better games last season when next to Phil rather than when they were playing with each other!! I guess its not just luck that two of Phil’s best games for us last season came against AC Milan. Very good luck to him. One thing I do find slightly strange, Cesc is very important to us, but within a couple of months, Arsene has let go his three best mates at the club; Flamini & Phil to AC Milan & Pleb to Barca. I am sure Cesc is big enough to cope without his mates & Arsene has done what he sees as best for the team overall, however, I would not be surprised to read in 5-years time when Cesc moves onto Barca/Madrid (god I hope he stays with us that long) that he was very upset when these three guys all moved within a couple of months of each other back in 2008.

I won’t go on about Fulham; as to be honest I don’t remember that much about the game, all I can say is the boat trip was fantastic & very very drunken!! I think the cook even came away with a sore wrist, as like the queen he is, he spent all the time he was not drinking “waving” to people on bridges & other boats. I think he thinks he’s got royal blood in him!!

Last of all, with Saturdays game being a 5:30pm KO, the Rocket doors will be open from 12-noon. We will have the Carling Cup 3^rd round draw live from about 12:15. We will also have a few open mic sessions, so make sure you get up & try out any new songs you might have. Then don’t forget the BBQ in the courtyard, food will be served between 1 & 4, so make sure you come to the Rocket hungry & buy a burger!!
