The ‘perfect footballing weekend’ is a rare breed, which only comes around every five seasons or so ; It consists of the following :
Arsenal Win
Spurs Lose
Man United Lose
Liverpool Lose
Chelsea Lose
We came so close this weekend, but we can be very happy with our lot this morning, Chelsea getting a solitary point was the only blemish on the weekend’s football.
Perhaps we got a bit lucky with the Gerrard / Gallas decision, so Stevie G did his best to get his revenge later in the match by deciding to fall over at every opportunity. I could not give a toss about the Scousers bleating this morning, as no matter how many decisions that go our way over the next twenty years against them, nothing will surpass the most ludicrous decision I have ever seen with my own eyes ;
FA Cup Final, Cardiff 2001
Thierry Henry rounds the Liverpool keeper and shoots on goal
Stephane Henchoz, on the line, sticks out a hand to palm the ball around the post
Referee gives a goal kick.
We lose 2-1 to two late goals
Never forgive, never forget.
Of course the main talking point on Sky after yesterday’s game was how their beloved Liverpool were beaten once more, hardly mentioning the mighty Gunners at all ; I could not give less of a toss, let them moan about the mess the Scousers are in, and the state of the so called ‘Rafalution’.
A strange quirk of our games against the big four this year have been the own goals ; Diaby at OT, Vermaelen against Chelsea, and then one finally going our way with Johnson yesterday. We let in another sloppy goal yesterday, and I was rather depressed at half time ; Please Santa, can we have a new goalkeeper for Christmas? I don’t really have anyone in mind ; I’m not going to preach about someone in particular, based on some random Championship Manager or YouTube knowledge, like so many keyboard warriors, but a rock solid keeper who can inspire some confidence in the defence is what is required.
The downside of getting good results just before Christmas is that Arséne will probably think everything is OK and he doesn’t need to buy anyone ; Don’t be fooled, Le Boss!
This hobby / obsession of ours of watching the Arsenal is supposed to be fun, though ; The last thirty minutes yesterday were absolute torture, as I had so little confidence in the back five to be able to hold out ; I feel I aged about fifteen years in the period between Arshavin’s second goal and the final whistle. With our rivals dropping points as mentioned above, it really was a good weekend all round.
Let’s not throw it all away by losing to Burnley, though eh lads? This is the stereotypical ‘Arsenal’s fancy dans are not up for it’ type of game ; away game in the North, midweek in December. They have a decent home record, but have struggled in the last few as the novelty of the Premier League has worn off a little; we have to be confident of three points to keep the pressure on.
To those of you with plastic Scousers as work colleagues, enjoy your day!

if the peanalty claim had been down the other end we would have been screaming for it. thought we were dire in the first half, so nervous, much better in the second. Almunia is a liability, needs dropping. Theo was really poor too, better in the second half in the middle. came to work this morning with a huge smile, what a great footballing weekend. great post.

Why do Arsenal supporters always blame Manuel Almuina when it,s clear for all to see that William Gallas is the main culprit in Arsenal,s defence as two goals against Chelsea prove .Too much ball watching and backpassing to the goalie who,s forced to boot upfield thereby losing possession. The two goals against Man.City were Silvestre,s fault in the Carling Cup game ,again too much ball watching and lapse of concentrat
ion ,and why don,t these two so called defenders go to the ball carrier and close down the angle of the crosses into the box .Tomas Vermaelen and Traore play well together with Song having to drop back into defence to cover up Gallas,s lapses in concentration ,whereas Alex should be pushing upfield to support Cesc,Samir ,Andriy ,and the other forwards in the quest for more goals. When will the Arsenal coaching staff wake up to the fact that Gallas and Silvestre aren,t Arsenal material?.We need another central defender to partner Vermaelen ,another defensive midfielder to cover for Arsenal,s most consistent player so far, Alex Ssong who will be leaving for the African Nations Cup very soon and another dynamic powerful striker who can hold the ball up and bring the midfiel
ders into the opposition box .
